Donald Trump announced on Saturday that Israel had agreed to a “withdrawal line” in the Gaza conflict and said a ceasefire would take effect as soon as Hamas confirms it. The former U.S. president added that a prisoner‑and‑hostage swap would begin once Hamas agrees, and that the next phase of the withdrawal would bring the fighting to an end.
Trump shared the news on Truth Social, warning that if the ceasefire is accepted the hostages could soon return to their families. He praised Arab nations—Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and others—that supported his plan for ending the Gaza crisis, calling the cooperation “unprecedented.” The White House released a video thanking the countries that helped organize the talks.
Israel’s negotiating team will travel to Egypt on Monday to meet with the UAE‑backed delegation. The group includes Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, hostage‑pick‑up specialist Gal Hirsch, PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s foreign‑policy adviser Ophir Falk, and senior Shin Bet and Mossad officials. Their goal is to secure the release of all hostages held by Hamas and other Gaza groups while also freeing Palestinian prisoners kept by Israel, in line with Trump’s plan.
If Hamas agrees, the ceasefire would be “immediately effective,” the White House said, and the hostage exchange would begin. Trump echoed earlier statements that the U.S. will treat all parties fairly as the conflict moves toward a lasting peace in the Middle East. The next few days will be critical as the negotiations in Egypt unfold.
