Imagine this: a woman on a cruise ship is stuck in a water slide tube, dangling more than 100 feet above the crashing ocean waves. She desperately scoots forward on her arms to escape, while shocked passengers below scream in panic. A viral TikTok video captured the terrifying moment, racking up over 7 million views.
The 13-second clip, set to a popular “Jet2 Holiday” sound, shows the distressed rider inside the clear slide. Her arms stretch out as she inches along. By the end, bystanders yell, “Oh my God, she’s literally stuck!” The poster didn’t name the cruise line, but the ship looks a lot like Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Bliss.
CruiseMapper reports that the Norwegian Bliss was on a seven-day round-trip Alaska cruise, sailing near Victoria, British Columbia, on September 19. The vessel features a thrilling ride called Ocean Loops—a double-looped water slide that juts 11 feet off the ship and hangs 159 feet above the water. Riders stand on a trap door that drops them into the loops before they splash into an onboard pool, according to Norwegian Cruise Line’s site.
To ride Ocean Loops, passengers need to be at least 40 inches tall and weigh between 120 and 300 pounds. It’s no wonder viewers reacted with horror. One commenter wrote, “Anyone else having a panic attack watching this?” Another said, “Stuck in a waterslide over actual ocean water would send me into a psychosis.” A third joked, “TikTok has definitely taught me to NEVER get in a cruise water slide.”
It’s unclear if the woman made it down safely by scooting, but one user mentioned the slide has an emergency hatch for staff to open in cases like this.
This isn’t the first scare on Ocean Loops. Back in 2022, another video showed a female rider seemingly trapped in the same slide. Luckily, the poster said crew freed her so fast that she was ready to ride again by the time they arrived.
Cruise water slide incidents keep popping up. Just last month, a glass panel shattered mid-ride on Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, sending water gushing out as riders screamed, “Stop the slide!” The cruise line confirmed a male passenger got hurt and received medical care, but they didn’t share injury details. These close calls highlight the adrenaline—and risks—of cruise ship adventures.
