Empowered women innovators key to balanced digital growth: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, used a special Women in Tech session at the ongoing India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 to press for stronger support for women innovators. She urged the tech industry and government to grow a safer ecosystem that offers mentorship, training and business‑building opportunities so women can steer India’s digital future.

“We’re building a self‑reliant India,” Gupta said. “From defense to tech we want our own semiconductors, networking gear and the world’s most popular mobile phones.” She added that gender should not limit courage or creativity, and that the sky is truly the limit for women tackling AI, the Internet of Things, robotics, and telecom.

While touring IMC pavilions, Gupta met female researchers, startup founders and entrepreneurs showcasing cutting‑edge gadgets. Her remarks aligned with the congress theme, “Innovate to Transform,” and highlighted the government’s pledge to bring inclusive, citizen‑focused progress to tech.

Earlier in the week, Gupta opened the three‑day Swadeshi Utsav 2025, a celebration launched by Delhi’s Industries Department and the State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation. The festival echoes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” slogans, encouraging Indians to value locally made goods. “Every citizen is an ‘industrial soldier’ protecting our economy,” she said, calling for pride in home‑grown products.

The Swadeshi Utsav, running until October 11, features more than 100 stalls across India’s entrepreneurial spectrum—MSMEs, self‑help groups, artisans, women and SC/ST business owners, and One District One Product exporters. Food courts serve traditional dishes, cultural shows spotlight India’s heritage, and industry experts from CII, ASSOCHAM, FICCI, SIDBI and others discuss how to elevate Indian brands worldwide.

Delhi Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa noted the vibrant display outside India Gate, where 100 booths highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit encouraged by the Swadeshi movement. The event continues to showcase how local manufacturing, women in tech and inclusive entrepreneurship can power India’s growing digital economy.
