Patna, Nov 6 – Bihar’s elections are running smoothly, says the state’s Director General of Police, Vinay Kumar. The DGP told that voting has been calm across the state, with no incidents so far.
Kumar added that every polling booth in Bihar has paramilitary guards standing by, and they’re supported by horse‑mounted patrols. “We have been watching everything closely, and the first phase is proceeding normally,” he said. “I’m also at the polling centre in Cooperative Colony 432, and I’ve already voted.” He urged every voter to head to the polls, reminding people that voting is the most valuable part of democracy.
The DGP also highlighted that the police are running voter‑awareness programs in several districts. “We have brand ambassadors and other outreach activities to encourage people to vote. We’ll be visiting areas near Patna later today to see how the polls are doing.”
Early reports from the Chief Electoral Officer show a voter turnout of 27.65 % across 18 districts by 11 a.m., the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections. The highest turnouts were in Begusarai (30.37 %) and Lakhisarai (30.32 %), while Saharsa (29.68 %) and Muzaffarpur (29.66 %) also saw strong participation. Patna district scored the lowest at 23.71 %.

A total of 1,314 candidates – 1,192 men and 122 women – are contesting in this phase. The Election Commission says 3.75 crore voters (1.98 crore men, 1.76 crore women, and 758 third‑gender voters) are eligible to vote from 45,341 polling stations (36,733 rural, 8,608 urban).
Security is tight: 15 police battalions and paramilitary forces guard all 18 districts, with extra attention in sensitive and Naxal‑affected areas where voting ends an hour early at 5 p.m. The Election Commission has also set up 320 model booths, 926 women‑managed stations, and 107 stations run by persons with disabilities. Every polling station now has a web‑casting facility to allow real‑time monitoring.
With the battle for seats underway, voters in Bihar are urged to press on to their polling booths to make their voices heard.
