Fake controversies being created to divert attention, says Kerala BJP chief

Thiruvananthapuram – BJP’s Kerala chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Monday that the current controversies over the proposed visit of Argentine football star Lionel Messi and the Sabarimala gold scam are being staged to hide a larger alleged fraud.

Chandrasekhar accused “criminals” who have moved into the media business of trying to shape public opinion. “These forces will be dealt with sternly,” he added.

The BJP leader rejected all accusations against him, stating that the allegations were baseless. “There is no shred of truth in what is being said about me,” he said. He referenced a statement from BPL – the company cited in the allegations – that had already clarified the matter.

“People have targeted me with false claims for a long time,” Chandrasekhar said. “Those who spread lies will face legal consequences.”

He framed the current controversy as part of a “larger pattern of deceit,” citing the Sabarimala scam and the Exalogic controversy as past examples. “We’ve seen the Sabarimala scam, the Exalogic case, and now the so‑called Messi fraud,” he said.

The BJP chief called for a “political and media cleansing” in Kerala to restore public trust. “We need to purify politics, and if that means cleansing corrupt media elements, we are ready to do it,” he said.

The comments come amid growing political turmoil over the alleged scam tied to the proposed Argentina team visit to Kerala.
