Kerala Readies for Local Body Elections with Final Voter List Published

Thiruvananthapuram – The Kerala Government has officially released the final voter list for the upcoming local body elections. As of now, over 2.83 crore residents are eligible to vote, making this one of the largest electoral exercises at the grassroots level in the state.

The final voters’ list, published by the State Election Commission, reflects recent changes after ward reorganization. Voters have been shifted to new polling stations based on the latest ward boundaries, ensuring accurate voting arrangements.

This updated list includes 1.34 crore men, 1.50 crore women, and 276 transgender voters. It also features 2,087 citizens living abroad who are registered as overseas voters, allowing non-resident Keralites to participate in the elections.

To be part of the electoral process, voters must have turned 18 years old on or before January 1, 2025. The list covers voters across 14 districts, with 17,337 wards in 941 gram panchayats, 3,240 wards in 87 municipalities, and 421 wards across six municipal corporations.

Citizens can view and verify the voter list online at sec.kerala.gov.in, or visit local government offices, taluk offices, and village offices to check their names. The process of finalizing these voters’ lists involved thorough scrutiny, including examining objections and applications received until August 12.

Earlier, the draft list was published on July 23 and recorded around 2.66 crore voters. During the revision, over 29.81 lakh new applications were submitted, along with requests for corrections and transfers. Nearly 4.88 lakh objections were also made, which were carefully reviewed before finalizing the list.

Comparing this with the 2020 local body elections, the number of voters has grown significantly. Back then, Kerala had about 2.76 crore registered voters, including 1.31 crore men, 1.44 crore women, and 240 transgender voters, plus 2,162 overseas voters.

The increase of more than six and a half lakh voters highlights Kerala’s expanding democratic participation. The publication of this final voter list is a key step ahead of the upcoming local body elections — the largest democratic event at the grassroots level in the state.

Stay tuned for more updates on Kerala’s local body elections as the date approaches!
