On the “International Day of Persons with Disabilities,” a state‑level ceremony celebrating skill excellence was held in Pauri, Uttarakhand. Skilled workers and self‑employed people with disabilities who attended the event spoke of their appreciation for the recognition and support coming from the government and its officials.
During the program, two disabled employees and three disabled entrepreneurs who were chosen at the state level each received Rs 8,000, along with certificates, letters of commendation, and shawls. The awardees said the honor lifts their spirits and helps them secure a respected place in society.
Participants highlighted how schemes run by the state and central governments—such as rehabilitation aid, equipment provision, pensions, training, job opportunities, and technical assistance—are proving very effective in showcasing their talents and integrating them into mainstream life.
The honored self‑employed recipients noted that financial help, guidance, and ready access to equipment have enabled them to advance their businesses.
The honored employees pointed out that workplace facilities and administrative backing play a crucial role in their success.
They also praised the free services offered by the District Legal Services Authority—including pension assistance, certificate issuance, banking and insurance help, compensation, counseling, and legal aid—mentioning how these services simplify many complex procedures.
Collectively, the skilled persons with disabilities said that the day carries real significance only when they receive equal opportunities, respect, and accessibility, and that the administration’s initiative today serves as a source of inspiration.
Senior administrative officer Raksha Negi urged people with disabilities never to consider themselves lesser in any field and to move forward with a positive mindset.
She added, “Because the term Divyang is attached to our names, it clearly shows that we are divine and special.” She said that the day was very special for her as she received the state‑level award, and expressed gratitude to the state government, the social welfare department, and her family.
Another officer, Manish Rawat, remarked, “We are extremely thankful to the state government for honouring us on this day.” He added that the opportunities being created by the state government for persons with disabilities deserve great appreciation. “At least someone is noticing how we work despite challenging circumstances,” he said.
