Fire breaks out in Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express coach, no casualties reported

A coach of the Amritsar–Saharsa Garib Rath Express caught fire at Sirhind railway station in Punjab on Saturday morning, but officials say no one was hurt.

The blaze started around 7:30 a.m. and was tamed within about an hour. Railway staff, the Government Railway Police, the Railway Protection Force and local police rushed to the scene. Fire‑brigade crews quickly extinguished the flames and passengers were moved to other carriages before the train departed for its next stop.

The Ambala Division’s Divisional Railway Manager will inspect the site later today while investigators work on the cause of the accident.

Train 12204 covers 1,716 km in roughly 31 hours and 20 minutes, running three times a week between Amritsar and Saharsa. It stops at 23 stations, including Jalandhar City, Delhi, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur, and Barauni, among others.

The incident at Sirhind station highlights the importance of quick action by railway safety teams. No injuries were reported, and the train continues its journey after the incident.
