Patna, Nov. 10 – A roof collapse in the Diara area of Patna district turned a quiet night into a tragedy, killing five members of a family. The accident happened in the village of Manas Naya Panapur 42 Patti, inside the Danapur Assembly constituency.
The victims were the house owner Bablu Khan (32), his wife Roshan Khatoon (30), their ten‑year‑old son Mohammad Chand, 12‑year‑old daughter Rukhsar, and their two‑year‑old daughter Chandni. According to villagers, they had gone to sleep after dinner when the roof cave in abruptly. A sudden crash alerted neighbors, who rushed to the site and discovered the house flattened.
Local officials or a panchayat head, Vakil Rai, said after hours of effort, they recovered all five bodies from the debris. The police later sent the bodies for post‑mortem, and an administrative inquiry is underway.
People say the house, built a few years ago under the Indira Awas Yojana scheme, had been showing cracks in walls and roof for some time. The family, struggling financially, could not afford repairs. Residents now demand fair compensation and urgent help from the government.
Former village head C.P. Singh warned that many old buildings in the Diara belt remain in a dilapidated state. He urged authorities to strengthen and inspect structures regularly, especially after this year’s monsoon floods, which weakened many homes.
Local police continue to monitor the scene, and the community remains deeply shaken. They call for better maintenance and quality control of housing‑scheme constructions to prevent future loss of life.
