Foreign policy is devastated: Congress backs Priyanka Gandhi’s attack on Centre’s Palestine policy

Congress leaders jumped to Priyanka Gandhi’s defense after she slammed India’s foreign policy on Palestine as “shameful” and short on moral courage. The Wayanad MP, a key figure in the opposition Congress party, made her bold statement in a Sunday post on X, criticizing the NDA government for ditching India’s long-standing support for Palestine over the past 20 months.
Priyanka Gandhi pointed out that India led the way by recognizing Palestine back in November 1988, one of the first countries to do so. “At the time, and throughout the valiant struggle of the Palestinian people, we showed the world the way by standing for what was right and upholding the values of humanity and justice on the international stage,” she wrote. But now, she added, “our policy towards Palestine in the last 20 months has been nothing less than shameful and devoid of moral rectitude. It’s a sad diminishment of a previously courageous stand.”
Her comments struck a chord with fellow Congress members, who echoed her frustration with the Modi government’s approach to India-Palestine relations. MP Imran Masood told that the foreign policy feels like a total letdown. “The foreign policy is indeed shameful. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan made a deal; it is indeed shameful. It is shameful that India did not stand with their friends, but at last it had to come back to the previous stand, backing Palestine,” Masood said. He slammed BJP leaders for cheering Israel while warning that Israel won’t back India when it counts. “The entire foreign policy has been destroyed,” he added.
MP Manoj Kumar also backed Priyanka Gandhi, demanding answers from the Centre on why India stayed quiet for so long. “The government should answer why we kept silent for 20 months. When the entire nation was backing Palestine, why did India abstain for such a long time? Our leader Priyanka Gandhi has raised a significant issue,” he said.
Senior Congress leader Udit Raj took it even further, claiming India’s global credibility is crumbling under the NDA. Reacting to Priyanka Gandhi’s post, he declared, “India’s foreign policy is now almost over. No one trusts India. Ever since Pakistan’s Defence deal with Saudi Arabia, it is fair to say that our foreign policy does not exist anymore.” Raj praised her words as a true reflection of India’s original pro-Palestine stance, accusing the government of weakening the country’s position worldwide. “What Priyanka Gandhi said is absolutely correct. We are not a stakeholder at all. When we cannot solve our own problems, how will we be effective against other countries? The country’s situation is deplorable, and our foreign policy is devastated,” he said.
This internal party support highlights growing tensions over India’s shifting stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict and broader foreign policy debates in New Delhi.
