CM Yadav hits back at MP Cong chief, says party can’t give lecture to BJP on cow protection

In Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav fired back at state Congress leader Jitu Patwari on Wednesday, arguing that anyone who sides with cow smugglers and slaughterers has no right to challenge the BJP government’s efforts on cow protection.
Yadav pointed out that Congress shows zero interest in protecting cows. Instead, he claimed, the party stays cozy with cow smugglers. “When our government cracks down on these smugglers, Congress leaders start shedding crocodile tears,” Yadav said during a public event in Balaghat.
He also slammed recent Congress attacks, like their jabs at the popular Ladli Behna scheme and a fresh false claim that the BJP has scrapped all GST on beef. “We need to set these fools straight—cow slaughter just doesn’t happen under BJP rule,” Yadav added.
This comes after Patwari accused the BJP of hypocrisy during a Bhopal press conference on Tuesday. Patwari highlighted that the government slapped a 0% GST on beef, questioning why a party that reveres the cow as “Mother Cow” would do that. “Isn’t this the BJP’s double standard?” he asked.
Patwari went further, calling out India as the world’s top exporter of beef—a meat banned in most states. He raised alarms about where all this beef comes from under BJP governments at the center and in states like Madhya Pradesh. “The BJP actually enables cow slaughter, and export records have shattered under Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Patwari said.
Backing his points with numbers, Patwari shared beef export figures from Madhya Pradesh districts for the 2024-25 financial year up to October. Indore led with Rs 9,387.60 crore, followed by Dhar at Rs 8,338 crore, Raisen at Rs 4,330.4 crore, Singrauli at Rs 2,402.7 crore, and Sehore at Rs 2,195.8 crore. Other big players included Dewas (Rs 2,045.2 crore), Ujjain (Rs 1,185.7 crore), Bhind (Rs 9,276.6 crore), Bhopal (Rs 8,499.9 crore), and Morena (Rs 7,746.6 crore).
Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajai Rai jumped in to support Patwari, repeating charges of BJP double standards on cow protection.
Yadav countered by noting how things changed in Madhya Pradesh after the BJP took power in 2003-2004. “Cow slaughter? Forget it. Even cow smuggling is off-limits now,” he said.
In response, Patwari announced major Congress protests on September 26 and 27 to spotlight alleged cow slaughter and beef exports under BJP rule. The row highlights ongoing tensions between the two parties over cow protection laws, beef exports from India, and GST policies in Madhya Pradesh.
