Nagpur, Dec 12 (LatestNewsX) – Maharashtra’s Minister for Women and Child Development, Aditi Tatkare, spoke to the state council on Friday, declaring that the government is determined to prevent any child death from malnutrition.
During a half‑hour discussion led by members Sanjay Khodke and others, she reported that the number of malnourished children fell from 246 in 2019‑20 to 97 in 2025‑26. The share of severely malnourished children dropped from 0.79 % in 2024 to 0.4 % in 2025. “An interdepartmental team comprising Women and Child Development, Health, and Tribal Development will be formed to combat malnutrition. Eradicating malnutrition has been given special priority in the Chief Minister’s 100‑day programme,” Tatkare said.
Responding to the same discussion, Minister of State Meghna Sakore Bordikar highlighted ongoing health and nutrition initiatives. “Various efforts are being made to ensure the health of mothers and the well‑being of children. Several schemes are active in remote areas. Hospitals are getting better facilities, and sanitation is improving. Counselling ensures that all deliveries take place in hospitals. Through ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) 42,602 pregnant mothers and children in the state are receiving nutritional food benefits,” she added. She noted that child deaths are not solely due to malnutrition but stem from multiple causes.
Meanwhile, in a half‑hour session in the Legislative Council, Minister of State Pankaj Bhoyar explained the government’s commitment to promote Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy nationwide. The remarks followed a query by member Satyajit Tambe about the limited coverage of Shivaji in the CBSE curriculum.
Bhoyar said he will meet the Union Education Minister to advocate for the inclusion of Shivaji’s history in the CBSE syllabus, emphasizing the need to give students a comprehensive and inspiring introduction. He added that, following the state’s initiative, a dedicated chapter titled “The Rise of Marathas” has already been added to the CBSE curriculum. A detailed proposal has been forwarded to NCERT via the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training. The government seeks richer content on Maharashtra’s history, geography, and especially on Shivaji himself.
