Mumbai (October 10) – Shivsena MP Sanjay Raut slammed the Maharashtra government for what he called a lack of action on the ongoing floods in Marathwada. Speaking in Mumbai, the MP said the state seemed more busy than ever welcoming a visiting British prime minister, while flood‑hit farmers wait for relief.
Raut demanded that the government step up quickly. He called for a cash payout of ₹50,000 per hectare for farmers whose land has become unusable. “The damage is so severe that the next two generations may not be able to farm here,” he warned. He also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use the PM Cares Fund to support Marathwada’s farmers, saying that a failure to act could push more people toward suicide.
Marathwada is covered in a relief package announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that totals ₹31.628 crore for farmers affected by rain and floods. The state will also give cash aid of ₹10,000 to each affected farmer. Fadnavis said more than 68 lakh hectares of crops were damaged across 29 of the 36 districts.
In response, Raut announced that Shivsena will launch a Marathwada Morcha. “Uddhav Thackeray will head the protest – we will show the government that the flood situation is not being taken seriously,” Raut said.
The flood crisis remains a headline issue in Maharashtra. Marathwada continues to suffer from long‑standing exploitation and the latest rains have pushed the region into deeper distress. Raut’s criticism and the upcoming protest aim to pressure the state and central governments into providing timely aid to farmers and residents alike.
