New Delhi, Dec. 27 – To make retirement smoother for public servants and their families, the government will host the 58th Pre‑Retirement Counselling Workshop in Pune on Dec. 29. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare is rolling out a range of reforms that align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a more inclusive and digital pension system.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh is slated to open the three‑day event, according to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions. The agenda covers everything an employee might need to know before stepping down: retirement benefits, CGHS coverage, investment options, the BHAVISHYA portal, the Integrated Pensioners Portal, family pension provisions, CPENGRAMS, ANUBHAV, and the newly introduced Digital Life Certificate.
The workshop is expected to benefit roughly 350 civil servants slated to retire from Maharashtra over the next year. In addition, the department will hold a Pensioners’ Awareness Programme to aid those already retired, and the 11th Bankers’ Awareness Programme to educate the banks that disburse pensions.
“The goal is to familiarize retirees and banks alike with the rules and processes that govern pension disbursement,” the ministry said. Banks participating in the programme will walk retirees through account opening, as well as offer advice on investing their pension corpus in appropriate schemes.
Meanwhile, the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) continues to expand. By Nov. 30, 2025, gross enrollment had risen to 84,517,419. APY is a universal social‑security initiative that targets the poor, the under‑privileged, and unorganised‑sector workers. The scheme provides a flexible, guaranteed minimum pension ranging from ₹ 1,000 to ₹ 5,000 per month. The government and the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) have intensified outreach efforts, especially in rural and remote parts of Bihar, to boost awareness and coverage.
