Ahmedabad, India – The Gujarat Anti‑Terrorism Squad (ATS) caught three men in Ahmedabad who were planning ISIS‑linked attacks across the country. The men were detained while they tried to hand over weapons, the ATS said on Sunday.
The squad had been tracking these suspects for about a year. “They came to Gujarat to swap weapons and were ready to strike in several places,” the ATS told reporters. Investigators are now working to pinpoint the exact targets the men intended to hit.
Earlier this year, Gujarat ATS stepped up the fight against terrorism. In July, five members of the Al‑Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) network were arrested. Among them was a woman from Bengaluru who ran an online terror cell linked to Pakistan. The six arrested names include Fardin Sheikh, Saifulla Qureshi, Mohammad Faiq, Zeeshan Ali, Shama Parveen, and an unnamed second burglar.
Police recovered a semi‑automatic pistol and live rounds from Zeeshan Ali during a raid at his Noida home, thanks to tips from a trial inquiry. The raid was carried out by Inspector Nikhil Brahmbhatt, Sub‑Inspector A.R. Chaudhary, and Deputy Superintendent Virajeetsinh Parmar.
The suspects are accused of spreading extremist propaganda, calling for a “Ghazwa‑e‑Hind” armed revolt against India’s elected government, and encouraging attacks on non‑Muslims. They face charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the new 2023 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita law.
Law enforcement officials say investigations are still underway, and more details are expected soon. The crackdown shows Gujarat’s commitment to keeping the city and the rest of India safe from terrorist threats.
