In Tapi district’s village of Dolvan, residents gathered on November 9 to honor the 150th birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda, a key part of Gujarat’s “Tribal Pride Year” celebrations. The day marked the start of the Tribal Pride Yatra, a march that began in Umargam and will finish at Ekta Nagar on November 13, showing the unity and culture of India’s tribal communities across the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi led the ceremony, joined by Tribal Development Minister Naresh Patel and Sports Minister Dr Jayram Gamit. Sanghavi praised the rich traditions of the tribe and said the people of Tapi keep their languages—Konkani, Gamit, Chaudhary, and Dodhiya—alive, calling the area a “living museum of India’s indigenous heritage.” He stressed that the Yatra is more than an event; it is a festival of unity and empowerment that moves from southern to northern Gujarat.
The Deputy CM thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for launching the “Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh” and announced that Modi will visit Devmogra and join the main Tribal Pride Day in Dediapada on November 15. Sanghavi recalled how Birsa Munda fought British rule to protect tribal rights, calling the event a symbol of national unity and patriotism.
During the gathering, tribal students who visited ISRO and winners of local sports contests received certificates. Other government welfare beneficiaries were also honoured, and cultural performances highlighted traditional tribal music and dance.
Attending the ceremony were key figures such as Deputy Speaker Vijay Patel, District Panchayat President Jalamsinh Vasava, MLAs Mohan Dodhiya and Mohan Konkani, Padma Shri awardee Ramilaben Gamit, District Collector Dr Vipin Garg, and District Development Officer Ramniwas Bugaliya, among other senior officials.
The event drew a large crowd of residents, community leaders, and young people from across Tapi district, turning the celebration into a true festival of tribal pride and unity.
