Gujarat: Kharge inaugurates District Congress Committee presidents’ training camp

In Ahmedabad, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge kicked off a special training camp for District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents from Gujarat. He fired up party leaders, urging them to bring discipline, dedication, and a strong commitment to the party’s ideology to build a solid base at the grassroots level.

Kharge highlighted a big milestone ahead: 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s presidency at the Congress’s historic 1925 Belgaum session. He stressed that the party must step up, reclaim its glorious legacy, and rally people around burning issues like those facing Gujarat and the nation.

Taking a sharp dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Kharge drew a clear line between Gujarat’s freedom icons—Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who fought for India’s independence and unity—and the current BJP leaders. He accused them of “snatching away freedoms and dividing the country.”

Kharge didn’t hold back on his criticisms of the BJP government. He claimed they’re undermining the Constitution and people’s voting rights while ignoring key groups like farmers, workers, women, and the youth. He even pointed to “vote theft” cases in Gujarat, saying the BJP rigs elections to stay in power.

Looking back at Congress’s journey, Kharge outlined three key chapters: leading the freedom struggle from 1885 to 1947, building democracy and growth after independence, and since 2014, standing strong as the opposition both on the streets and in Parliament.

He gave a shoutout to Rahul Gandhi’s four major yatras, saying they’ve sparked awareness across India and left the BJP government stumbling and relying on “crutches” to keep going.

On border tensions with China, Kharge targeted PM Modi directly. He said while Chinese troops intruded, Modi was busy “roaming in China” and even denied the incursions. Wrapping up his point, Kharge added, “PM Modi starts and ends his speeches by attacking Congress because he knows only we can beat him.”

Kharge reminded everyone about the huge role of DCC presidents, noting that legends like Purushottam Das Tandon, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Govind Ballabh Pant once held the post. He also announced statewide celebrations for Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary on October 31, calling on Gujarat Congress leaders to take charge at the district level.
