In the heart of Gujarat’s Olpad Bus Depot, a bustling cleanliness drive kicked off on Thursday to boost hygiene and community spirit. This event ties into the ‘Seva Pakhwada’ initiative, celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday with nationwide efforts led by the BJP.
Hundreds rolled up their sleeves for the activity, including officials from the State Transport Corporation, the depot manager, Olpad Taluka Panchayat’s female president Nita Ben Patel, the local gram panchayat sarpanch, and a mix of leaders, school kids, and residents. They swept, scrubbed, and pitched in to make the depot spotless, turning it into a model of civic responsibility.
The depot manager fired up the crowd during his speech. “This campaign needs to go beyond our bus depot walls,” he said. “Cleanliness should spread to every village and town. Where there’s cleanliness, you’ll find divinity. But where filth lingers, disease follows.” He pushed everyone to keep the momentum going as a daily habit, not just a one-off event.
Local Deputy Sarpanch Anand Kahar echoed the enthusiasm. “We’re hosting this Seva Pakhwada to honor PM Modi’s birthday, and it’s inspiring to see so many folks diving into the cleanliness drive,” he shared.
This Service Fortnight, or Sewa Pakhwada, runs across India until October 2, marking the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. The BJP plans a range of programs on themes like promoting hygiene, spreading healthcare awareness, planting trees, and ensuring clean water supplies. It also spotlights environmental protection and delivers government welfare schemes straight to the poor and marginalized communities.
At its core, the drive aligns with Modi’s vision that politics should serve everyday people—especially the underprivileged—through flagship initiatives and outreach efforts. Events like this one in Gujarat aim to connect folks from all walks of life, fostering a cleaner, healthier nation one community at a time.
