Harjot Singh Bains inspects relief operations in Tarapur, Kiratpur Sahib

Punjab Ministers Step Up Flood Relief Efforts in Flood-Hit Villages

In a hands-on push to aid flood-affected areas, Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains visited Tarapur and Kiratpur Sahib villages in his constituency on Tuesday. As part of Operation Rahat, he checked the ongoing relief work led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Bains inspected damage to homes caused by rainwater rushing from the Shivalik foothills into seasonal rivulets. He also reviewed embankment repairs at the historic Gurdwara Baba Gurditta Ji.

To support the volunteers, Bains donated Rs 50,000 for diesel costs of tractors and vehicles helping with relief under Operation Rahat. This move highlights the government’s commitment to quick recovery in Punjab flood zones.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak led a major cleanliness drive in 10 flood-hit villages: Skol, Dhinda/Bhupalpur, Kotli Jawahar, Palah, Ghola, Kot Bhattian, Balotar, Sarota, Danwal, and Khojki Chak. Under the Punjab government’s intensive campaign, teams removed stagnant water, carried out fogging and spraying to stop disease outbreaks, and ran awareness sessions on hygiene.

Kataruchak shared that the state will give Rs 1 lakh as the first installment to each affected village for these cleanliness efforts. This is a big boost for residents battling post-flood challenges.

In another area, Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar kicked off a cleanliness campaign in Radhalke, Ram Singh Wala, and Muthianwala villages of the Patti constituency. He stressed that the drive will keep going until every flood-affected spot in Punjab is spotless.

On the overall situation, Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian provided the latest update till September 16. The number of affected villages has ticked up slightly from 2,472 to 2,483, with the impacted population now at 3,89,258, up from 3,89,176.

But there’s good news on relief: active relief camps have dropped from 66 to 41, and the number of people staying in them has fallen from 3,449 to 1,945. This shows the ground situation in Punjab floods is improving steadily, thanks to the tireless work of teams and locals.
