Haryana’s government has made a big splash in welfare delivery by transferring a whopping Rs 1.06 lakh crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi shared this update during a key meeting in Chandigarh on Tuesday, highlighting how these efforts are changing the game for millions of citizens.
Speaking at the fourth meeting of the Advisory Board on DBT, Rastogi praised the system’s role in making welfare faster, more transparent, and efficient. “This is all about cutting down on leakages and boosting accountability,” he said. The state has successfully weeded out 36.75 lakh ghost, fake, or duplicate beneficiaries, saving precious public money.
The numbers tell an inspiring story. Since 2014-15, DBT has led to actual savings of Rs 1,182.22 crore, with total notional savings hitting Rs 10,187.13 crore by the end of the last fiscal year. In 2024-25 alone, Haryana pumped Rs 17,824.10 crore into the hands of 2.78 crore beneficiaries via 14.82 crore transactions. That’s a clear win for tech-driven governance!
Rastogi urged nodal officers to keep beneficiary data fresh on the state DBT portal. He also pushed for smooth linking of Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) and Aadhaar details to ramp up accuracy and service speed. Right now, 26 departments have rolled out 156 DBT schemes—96 state-run and 60 backed by the Centre—making Haryana a leader in digital welfare.
Key officials like Additional Chief Secretary (Social Justice) G. Anupama, Principal Secretary (Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs) D Suresh, and Commissioner and Secretary (Finance) Mohammed Shayin joined the discussion, along with senior department heads. This push shows Haryana’s commitment to fair and fraud-free benefits for all.
