The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken action against a fraud ring that pretended to be high‑ranking government officials. On November 11, the agency arrested Ajit Kumar Patra and associate Minku Lal Jain in Jaipur, Rajasthan, after uncovering their elaborate bribery and impersonation scam.
Patra and Jain allegedly posed as senior officers from ministries, law‑enforcement agencies, and the judiciary. Using false identities, they convinced victims—ranging from private citizens to officials—that they could secure fast‑track approvals or VIP access. The pair promised “official” favors in exchange for money, often insisting on large sums to “settle” cases or gain entry to restricted events and official guest houses.
The plot came to light during a raid by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) on November 4, 2025. Police searched the office of Vinod Parihar, CEO of Cybdeer Network Private Limited. Parihar was trying to avoid arrest by contacting Patra and Jain, who demanded 18 lakh rupees to “clear” his record with unnamed DGGI officials. The next day, CBI officers caught Patra and Jain while they were receiving the bribe from Jagjit Singh Gill, a former associate of Parihar.
At the scene, investigators recovered the 18 lakh rupees. A subsequent search across Delhi, Rajasthan and Odisha uncovered 3.7 crore rupees in cash, 1 kilogram of gold jewelry, 26 property documents in the names of Patra and relatives, four luxury cars, twelve other vehicles, and several digital devices.
CBI officials say the scam operated across several states and involved a larger network of accomplices and victims. The investigation is still ongoing.
The arrest of Ajit Kumar Patra and Minku Lal Jain is a warning that fraudsters who impersonate government officials can be caught—and the CBI is actively pursuing the full extent of this bribery network.
