Heavy rain forecast for four TN districts today

Chennai and parts of southern Tamil Nadu brace for heavy rain as a low‑level atmospheric circulation sweeps across the region. The Regional Meteorological Centre says the worst showers will hit four districts on Saturday: Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Thoothukudi.
The weather system currently sits over the southern peninsula. It will trigger moderate to heavy rains accompanied by occasional thunder and lightning. Within the four districts, some interior and coastal pockets could see intense downpours from the evening through the night.
Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari are expected to keep soaking up rain into Sunday, so wet conditions may linger for the next couple of days. People in low‑lying areas that often flood should stay alert and keep an eye on local advisories. District officials urge residents to prepare for possible disruptions to everyday life.
In Chennai, clouds will cover most of the sky today. A light to moderate shower, with a chance of thunder, could arrive in the evening, but sunny spells will break through during the day. Temperatures will peak at around 32‑33 °C and dip to 25‑26 °C overnight. Winds will pick up from the northeast at moderate speeds, reflecting the ongoing northeast monsoon.
The department hasn’t issued a fishing warning. Marine conditions along the Tamil Nadu coast should stay generally safe. Still, fishermen should stay vigilant and keep updated on any local weather changes.
Overall, the forecast calls for a wet weekend across southern Tamil Nadu, so stay dry and stay safe.
