Israel’s foreign minister, Gideon Sa’ar, is set to arrive in New Delhi this week for a two‑day diplomatic tour. He will meet India’s External Affairs Minister, Anantha J. Saikumar (“Saikumar” is the usual short form for Subrahmanyam Jaishankar), on Tuesday to discuss a range of issues—including trade, connectivity and the current Middle‑East situation.
During Sa’ar’s visit, the Israeli minister will also hold talks with senior Indian officials, ambassadors, university leaders, and business executives. He is scheduled to give a briefing for foreign‑policy scholars on Middle‑East affairs before flying back to Israel on Wednesday.
The move follows growing ties between the two countries. Reports say Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will visit India in the coming months, as both leaders have highlighted the importance of a stronger strategic partnership. Isaac Sa’ar has already met Jaishankar at the Munich Security Conference in February, where they explored ways to boost trade routes linking Asia, Europe and the U.S. through Israel and discussed the impact of Houthi and Iranian actions on those routes.
The ministers also spoke by phone on June 13, when Sa’ar reached out to Jaishankar about ongoing developments. Jaishankar posted the call on X, the social‑media platform formerly known as Twitter, noting the discussion of bilateral cooperation.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently thanked Israeli counterparts, particularly Benjamin Netanyahu, for Diwali greetings and wished him a healthy, successful year. Modi also extended a birthday wish to Netanyahu and pledged to keep the India‑Israel strategic partnership thriving.
Israeli officials echoed the warmth of the exchange. The Prime Minister’s office posted a message on X reminding Indians that “Israel and India stand together—partners in innovation, friendship, defence and a brighter future.”
