Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stepped in to calm concerns after a tense protest in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Speaking on Saturday, he assured everyone that law and order in the state remains fully under control. “Law and order is under control in UP, and governance is running smoothly,” Meghwal told .
The trouble started a day earlier during the “I Love Muhammad” protest outside the historic Ala Hazrat Dargah and the home of Ittehad-e-Millat Council chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan. Protesters gathered after Friday prayers, holding signs that read “I Love Mohammad” to show support for the Prophet.
Things turned violent when some in the crowd began shouting slogans and throwing stones at police officers on a routine flag march. Officers responded with a lathi charge to disperse the group and detained several people involved in the stone pelting.
In the aftermath, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, urged calm and peace. He called the clashes unfortunate and stressed that true love for the Prophet means promoting harmony, not violence. “The only way to love Paigambar-e-Islam is not to hurt anyone—neither through words nor actions—and to uphold peace,” he told . “He gave a message of peace to the entire world.”
Maulana Bareilvi also advised Muslims to stay peaceful and avoid any run-ins with police or authorities. “Maintain law and order, don’t take the law into your own hands, and follow the path of peace shown by the Prophet. That’s the greatest expression of love,” he added.
Local residents in Bareilly shared a different view, saying the “I Love Muhammad” protest began peacefully but escalated only after police used lathi charges on the crowd. As tensions ease in Uttar Pradesh, leaders on all sides emphasize keeping the peace amid the ongoing calls for unity and respect.
