In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, police leaders teamed up with university students to fight drug abuse and build stronger community ties. On Monday, September 22, the Himachal Pradesh Police Headquarters hosted a Drug Abuse Awareness Campaign at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU). During the event, they signed a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the HP Police and HPU to boost collaboration on cutting-edge topics like cybersecurity, cyber forensics, AI-based crime analysis, traffic management, and citizen-friendly apps.
This partnership focuses on technology, research, and training to improve evidence-based policing. It also gives HPU students hands-on experience in real-world law enforcement, helping them tackle modern challenges like cyber threats and drug issues head-on.
Himachal Pradesh Police Director General Ashok Tiwari led the campaign. He encouraged students to stay alert as the “eyes and ears” of society, spot suspicious activities, and report them right away. Tiwari shared practical tips on avoiding cybercrimes, staying safe online, and getting help quickly when needed.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Geetanjali urged everyone to reach out to police without hesitation, promising easy access and full support. A law officer highlighted how the courts protect victims with respect while cracking down hard on drug peddlers.
The session wrapped up with a lively Q&A, where Tiwari answered students’ questions and stressed the value of vigilance, personal responsibility, and teamwork between youth and police. This combo of the MoU and awareness drive not only builds trust but sets up long-term teamwork to combat drug abuse, online dangers, and policing hurdles in Himachal Pradesh.
In other positive news from the state, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s government just greenlit jobs for over 2,600 young people at the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL). This includes 1,602 Bijli Upbhogta Mitras to help with consumer services and 1,000 T-Mates for field support.
A government spokesperson said this marks the biggest recruitment push in recent years for the state-owned company. The move addresses a staff shortage—right now, 3,049 out of 4,009 T-Mate posts sit empty, hurting operations and reliable power delivery. By hiring these youth, HPSEBL aims to ensure smooth electricity supply for everyone across Himachal Pradesh, creating jobs and improving daily life.
