Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared warm wishes on Hindi Diwas today, celebrating the power of Indian languages to bring the country together. Speaking in New Delhi, he stressed how these languages keep our rich cultural heritage alive while playing a bigger role in technology, governance, and global connections.
In his message, Amit Shah highlighted a key goal: making Hindi and other Indian languages the backbone of tech, science, justice, education, and administration. “In this Digital India era, with e-Governance, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning on the rise, we’re building our languages to be future-ready,” he said. “They’ll help India lead in the global tech race.”
Amit Shah described India as a deeply language-loving nation. He explained that our native languages have passed down culture, history, traditions, knowledge, science, philosophy, and spirituality through generations. From the snowy peaks of the Himalayas to the sunny beaches of the south, from deserts to dense forests and village gatherings, languages have always helped people stay connected, organized, and united.
He also recalled how Indian languages fueled the freedom struggle. Freedom fighters linked regional and village tongues to the fight for independence. Poets, writers, and playwrights in every Indian language used folk tales, songs, and plays to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds. Iconic slogans like “Vande Mataram” and “Jai Hind” sprang from this linguistic spirit and became symbols of pride for free India.
Amit Shah paid tribute to the Constitution framers who chose Hindi as the official language. On September 14, 1949, the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi in Devanagari script for the Union of India. Article 351 of the Constitution tasks the government with promoting Hindi to showcase India’s composite culture.
Under the BJP-led government since 2014, efforts to boost Hindi in official work have ramped up. This year, on Hindi Diwas 2024, the Bharatiya Bhasha Anubhag was launched to enable smooth translations across major Indian languages.
Hindi Diwas marks the historic adoption of Hindi as India’s official language on September 14, 1949, reminding us of its enduring role in our nation’s story.
