In a key move ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is holding a high-level strategy meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday. This meeting is part of the BJP’s efforts to finalize their plans for the upcoming polls.
Top leaders from the BJP are participating, including Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with Union Ministers Giriraj Singh and Nityanand Rai. The discussion is expected to cover recent survey results, concerns about anti-incumbency among sitting MLAs, and how to share seats within the NDA alliance.
The timing of this meeting is important, coming shortly after the opposition’s Voter Adhikar Yatra, which wrapped up in Patna on September 1. Led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, the yatra aimed to protest what they call manipulation of Bihar’s voter list by the Election Commission. The Opposition bloc, called INDIA, argues that the voter revision process unfairly impacts marginalized communities.
Meanwhile, the BJP has announced a statewide Bihar bandh on September 4 to protest against what they call offensive remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother. The protests come in response to inflammatory speeches made during the opposition-led yatra, specifically in Darbhanga.
The bandh is scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon, and will be led by the BJP Mahila Morcha. Essential services and train operations will be exempt from the shutdown. Major roads and traffic are likely to face disruptions, but normal activities are expected to resume in the afternoon.
Overall, these political developments highlight the intense preparations and protests ahead of Bihar’s upcoming elections.
