Income Tax Department Visits Bhopal, Indore, and Mumbai in Major Tax Evasion Crackdown
In a major move against tax evasion, the Income Tax (IT) Department carried out raids at nearly 30 locations across Bhopal, Indore, and Mumbai. The focus was on a local medical equipment trader, raising eyebrows about potential financial irregularities.
The raids targeted Science House Medical Private Limited, a company based in Bhopal that deals in medical and surgical equipment. The company is owned by Rajesh Gupta, a trader in the city. Tax officials started their search early Tuesday morning around 5 a.m., and the operation was expected to go on for several hours.
During the searches, officials seized numerous documents that could point to possible tax evasion by the company. Reports suggest that the Income Tax team also raided the company’s Mumbai office as part of the investigation.
The authorities are questioning key individuals associated with the company, including director Jitendra Tiwari along with three other people: Rohit Gupta, a software engineer; Dinesh Barolia; and Shikha Rajoria. The team arrived in a convoy of five vehicles, reflecting the scale of the operation.
Heavy police security was deployed outside the Science House premises in Bhopal’s Gautam Nagar to prevent any untoward incidents. Simultaneously, raids took place at the homes and offices of people linked to the company in other parts of Bhopal, such as Rachna Nagar and Lalghati.
One of the raids was conducted at the residence of Jitendra Tiwari in Panchwati Park, Lalghati. A large security presence was maintained during the operation to ensure smooth proceedings.
In addition to the company’s offices, searches were also carried out at the premises of suppliers connected to the trader, including Shailendra Tiwari and Mohan Sharma. The details about their supplies or the reasons behind these raids haven’t been disclosed yet.
There are reports suggesting that the traders under investigation have close connections with a senior IAS officer through brokers. However, the identity of this official remains undisclosed.
Right now, the Income Tax team is busy examining the documents and records inside the buildings. Officials have not officially confirmed the reasons for the raids, but the operation signals a significant crackdown on potential tax evasion in the medical equipment trade in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Stay tuned for updates as more details emerge about this ongoing investigation.
