The 93rd anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF) drew crowds at the South Western Air Command (SWAC) headquarters in Gandhinagar. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel opened the ceremony and poured his praise on the IAF’s legacy of service and courage.
Patel addressed the gathering, wishing the entire Air Force family success and thanking them for keeping India’s skies safe. He called the decade under Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “golden era” for the IAF and highlighted Operation Sindoor—an unmanned strike that brought the country international respect for its growing aerospace strength. While the operation’s details stay confidential, its success underlined India’s defensive capability.
The chief minister also celebrated a milestone from India’s space program. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, a decorated IAF officer, returned from a recent space expedition. “His journey brings pride to every Indian and adds meaning to this year’s anniversary,” Patel said.
Patel went beyond the military focus. He praised SWAC for its role in national social‑welfare programs, noting the command’s active participation in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” the Fit India movement, and International Yoga Day. He also commended “Sangini,” the women‑run organization that supports Air Force families and the local community.
The event kicked off with Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, SWAC’s Air Officer Commanding‑in‑Chief, who sketched the IAF’s history and its modern, tech‑savvy evolution. Senior officials, air warriors, and their families also attended. The ceremony ended with a stirring performance by the Indian Air Force Band, weaving patriotic melodies that honored the IAF’s 93-year journey.
