J&K L-G announces houses, family health insurance & other facilities for those affected during Op Sindoor and floods

Jammu, Dec 8 — The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, told reporters on Monday that those who were hurt in the recent Operation Sindoor and the floods will soon receive new homes along with family health‑insurance coverage and additional amenities. He said the situation marks “a new chapter” for people struck by the border shelling and the floods.

Sinha expressed gratitude to HRDS India, which has committed to build 1,500 houses for the affected families. He noted that a memorandum of understanding has been signed, with each dwelling costing about ten lakh rupees and a total outlay of 35 crore rupees. The homes will feature modern designs, quality materials, and all current conveniences, and the construction is slated to finish within six months. All residents of these houses will also be added to a health‑insurance scheme. He added that local authorities have been actively supporting the victims.

The lieutenant governor described the period as “tough” because the floods and the shelling caused severe damage to infrastructure. “I pay tribute to those who lost their lives in both these situations,” he said, highlighting the administration’s efforts to heal wounds and protect people. He also noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Jammu and pledged comprehensive assistance for the victims. A detailed report has been submitted to the Union government, and a relief package for flood survivors is expected soon.

Sinha went on to say that the government has created jobs and provided compensation for families impacted by Pakistani shelling. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the significant changes in Jammu and Kashmir over recent years, especially through initiatives like the PM Awas Yojana and other rural development schemes. He cited the expansion of the Jammu‑Akhnoor highway, the restoration of the Mubarak Mandi complex, and the rapid progress of smart‑city projects as evidence of the region’s growing momentum.
