On October 2, leaders across India honored Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, known as Gandhi Jayanti. This day also marks the International Day of Non-Violence, celebrating the ‘Father of the Nation’s’ timeless ideals of truth, non-violence, and satyagraha.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge shared warm greetings on X, drawing inspiration from Gandhi’s teachings. “Truth stands, even if there be no public support. It is self-sustained,” Kharge quoted Gandhi. He added that Gandhi’s principles, which lit the path to peace for the world, continue to guide us today. “As we face challenges to these ideals, we move forward on Bapu’s path, following his lessons. Heartfelt Gandhi Jayanti wishes to all,” Kharge said.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, paid tribute to Gandhi as a beacon of humanity. “Gandhi showed the world the way of truth and non-violence, while building a governance system rooted in honesty. On his birth anniversary, I remember him with deep respect and devotion,” Kumaraswamy stated. He called Gandhi an eternal source of inspiration and awareness.
In Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah marked the occasion by garlanding Gandhi’s statue at Mahatma Gandhi Circle in Mysuru and offering floral tributes. Speaking to the media, he urged everyone to follow Gandhi’s example. “We celebrate Gandhi Jayanti today, emulating his ideals and walking in his footsteps,” Siddaramaiah said. He highlighted Gandhi’s key role in India’s freedom struggle. “Our independence came through his leadership, sacrifices, and martyrdom. Let’s all commit to his path and inspire others to do the same.”
Siddaramaiah also remembered former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose birth anniversary falls on the same day. “Shastri was a model of honesty. I pray we find the strength to follow his way,” he noted. Coincidentally, October 2 this year aligns with Vijaya Dashami, and the chief minister extended festive greetings to the public.
