India intensifies probe with focus on terror elements

New Delhi, Nov. 12 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a Red Fort car explosion a “terrorist incident” in a top‑level Cabinet meeting today. The Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Modi, urged investigators to act with “utmost urgency” to identify and arrest the bombers and their sponsors.

Modi arrived at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital in Delhi soon after returning from a two‑day trip to Bhutan. He met patients injured in the blast and then called the Cabinet meeting. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reaffirmed India’s “zero‑tolerance” stance on all forms of terrorism.

The government is sharpening emergency response, intelligence gathering and policing. The cabinet’s directive signals a push for faster, larger‑scale investigations and stronger coordination across agencies. “Political will can help mobilise resources, expand investigative powers, and pursue suspects aggressively,” the statement added.

Designating the attack as terrorism also strengthens India’s diplomatic push. The government will seek tighter intelligence sharing, arrests, and extraditions from any foreign state that might be harbouring or funding the attackers. Early probes suggest cross‑border links, and the new classification will encourage international partners to join the probe.

India’s swift action aims to deter future attacks. “Strong counter‑terror measures reduce immediate risk, and foreign pressure can discourage future plots,” a spokesperson said.

The Cabinet’s decision provides a clear legal framework for the police and central agencies to freeze assets, tighten surveillance, and detain suspects under anti‑terror laws. It also sets a firm tone for India’s global stance against terrorism.
