Asaduddin Owaisi Urges India to Back Qatar Against Israel
Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called on the Indian government to firmly support Qatar and cut ties with Israel. In a strong post on X (formerly Twitter), Owaisi highlighted this as a key moment for India to show its principled stance on global issues.
Tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Owaisi pointed out that Israel attacked and bombed Qatar, violating its sovereignty. He slammed Israel’s government under Benjamin Netanyahu as a "genocidal" force that threatens world peace and stability. "This is India’s chance to take an unequivocal stand. Stand with Qatar and stay away from the global pariah Israel," Owaisi wrote, ending with "JAI Hind." He shared the message in English and Arabic, even tagging Qatar’s Amir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Owaisi reminded everyone of India’s deep ties with Qatar. Around 7 lakh Indians work there, boosting our economy. In 2024-25, India exported goods worth $1.68 billion to Qatar, while imports hit $12.47 billion. Plus, India is close to finalizing the Terms of Reference for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Qatar. Supporting Qatar makes sense for India’s interests, he argued.
This isn’t Owaisi’s first criticism of India’s Israel ties. Earlier, he blasted the Modi government for signing a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) with Israel. Calling it "despicable," Owaisi said it happened while Israel faces accusations of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and famine in Gaza. He shared a photo of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her Israeli counterpart Bezalel Smotrich signing the deal.
Owaisi noted that Smotrich, who sat next to Sitharaman, has publicly said it’s "just and moral" to starve Gazans. The International Criminal Court (ICC) even has pending arrest warrants against him. "Backing a genocidal government isn’t in India’s national interest," Owaisi stressed.
Owaisi’s bold words on India-Qatar relations and Israel criticism are sparking discussions online, especially amid rising Middle East tensions. As India balances its foreign policy, voices like his push for a stronger ethical line.
