The buzz started when Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the US and India would resume discussions to tackle trade barriers. He called PM Modi a “very good friend” and said he looks forward to chatting with him soon. Trump feels confident they’ll reach a successful deal for both nations.
PM Modi quickly responded on X, praising the solid India-US relationship. The trade tensions kicked off when Trump hiked tariffs on Indian goods to 50 percent. This started with a 25 percent duty from August 7, followed by an extra levy from August 27. Products like Indian shrimps, organic chemicals, carpets, and apparel (both knitted and woven) became pricier in the US market, hurting India-US trade.
