Indian doctors in Stanford list of world’s top 2 pc scientists a proud moment: Minister
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal celebrated a milestone for Indian medicine on Wednesday, praising the rise of Indian doctors on Stanford University’s 2025 list of the world’s top‑2 percent scientists. The post on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted how the ranking shows India’s growing expertise in medical research.
The Stanford list – a database that ranks over 100,000 scientists by citation metrics such as the c‑score – named 14 orthopaedicians, 41 paediatricians and more than 6,000 faculty members from India’s leading institutions. “A proud moment for Indian doctors,” Goyal wrote, noting that the scientists were recognized for pioneering research, clinical achievements, and transformational impact.
Goyal also singled out Dr. Arun Mullaji, a respected orthopaedician and personal friend, as a shining example of India’s talent.
Key figures from the list include:
* 6,239 Indian researchers in the single‑year category and 3,372 in the career‑long category in 2024.
* The largest share came from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) with 755 researchers, followed by 330 from National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and 117 from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore.
* The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) saw 80 researchers qualify, 56 of whom are from AIIMS New Delhi.
These numbers underscore India’s growing footprint in global medical research and the commitment of its scientific community to innovation and world‑class excellence.
