PM Modi Launches Gyan Bharatam Portal to Preserve India’s Ancient Knowledge
Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s timeless knowledge tradition during the launch of the Gyan Bharatam Portal in New Delhi. He explained that this rich heritage stands strong on four key pillars: preservation, innovation, addition, and adaptation.
Speaking on the second day of the Gyan Bharatam International Conference at Vigyan Bhawan, PM Modi unveiled the portal. This digital platform aims to speed up the digitization of ancient manuscripts, ensure their preservation, and make them easily accessible to the public. The conference focuses on reclaiming India’s knowledge legacy through its manuscript heritage.
"India’s knowledge tradition remains vibrant today because it rests on these four major pillars—preservation, innovation, addition, and adaptation," PM Modi said.
He added that the event goes beyond just government or academic circles. "The Gyan Bharatam International Conference isn’t merely a governmental or academic affair—it’s a bold proclamation of our Indian culture, literature, and consciousness. I congratulate every citizen of the nation on the launch of the Gyan Bharatam mission."
PM Modi emphasized how the mission will bring the wisdom of India’s great scholars and sages into the digital age. "Through the Gyan Bharatam mission, we’ll digitize thousands of years of contemplation, the insights and research of our sages, our knowledge traditions, and our scientific heritage. I extend my warm congratulations to all citizens for this milestone."
According to the Ministry of Culture, Gyan Bharatam is a nationwide movement to protect and share India’s vast collection of manuscripts. It honors our civilizational roots while aligning with PM Modi’s vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047, positioning the country as a global knowledge leader (Vishwa Guru) that blends ancient wisdom with modern innovation.
The initiative offers a complete framework to revive India’s manuscript legacy. Key goals include:
- Identifying and documenting texts via a national register.
- Conserving and restoring fragile manuscripts.
- Using AI-driven tools for large-scale digitization.
- Building a National Digital Repository for easy access.
Gyan Bharatam will also promote research, translation, and publication of rare manuscripts. It focuses on training scholars and conservators, creating user-friendly digital platforms, and encouraging public involvement through collaborative programs. Plus, it will foster global partnerships and weave manuscript knowledge into education, boosting India’s role in worldwide knowledge sharing.
This launch marks a exciting step toward safeguarding India’s cultural treasures for future generations.
