‘Rahul Gandhi is non-resident Indian politician’: Tejaswi Surya amid LoP’s Berlin travel plan

On December 10 in New Delhi, LatestNewsX reported that a fresh political spat erupted in Parliament after BJP MP Tejaswi Surya attacked Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Berlin. Surya, speaking to reporters outside the chambers, called the opposition leader a “non-resident Indian politician” and said he spends more time abroad than in India, “his mind is abroad, but he is forced to do politics here.”
He warned that it is almost unheard of for a regular MP to leave the country during a sitting session. “Even after becoming the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi still takes a 5–6‑day leave in the middle of a session,” Surya said, “and I believe India deserves a resident opposition leader who truly cares about the nation and takes his job seriously.” He added that when Congress returns to the opposition benches in the next term, the party should choose a more sober LoP.
Surya also dismissed the opposition’s “vote theft” claims. “Those allegations have been cleared by the Supreme Court and rejected by voters in Bihar,” he argued. “If Rahul Gandhi has evidence of electoral fraud, why not bring it before a court?” he asked. He noted that post‑election legal remedies exist and that Congress has not filed any petition following the Bihar polls. “Spreading lies in Parliament, issuing press conferences, and taking foreign trips does not lead to change,” Surya said, adding that even unmotivated schoolchildren attend class more consistently than Rahul Gandhi in the House.
A day after alleging that the Election Commission colludes with the ruling party to undermine democracy, Rahul Gandhi again accused the BJP of turning the ECI into a tool for “vote chori.”
