
Jammu and Kashmir’s Tourism Department kicked off World Tourism Day with fun events across the Valley, all designed to spark excitement and draw more visitors back to the region.
After the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, officials wanted to spread positivity and remind everyone why this beautiful area is worth exploring. Director Raja Yaqoob shared with that they organized a bicycle rally and a painting competition for school kids in Pahalgam. They also hosted lively music festivals in both Pahalgam and Gulmarg. “We want to bring positivity to the country and the region,” Yaqoob said. “And it’s working—tourists are returning in big numbers to Jammu and Kashmir.”
On the national front, India’s Ministry of Tourism marked World Tourism Day 2025 under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” The event brought together experts from government, business, academia, and community groups to discuss how tourism can drive positive change.
Suman Bery, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, joined as the chief guest. Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for Tourism, Petroleum & Natural Gas, led the proceedings, while Suman Billa, Additional Secretary in the Ministry, gave the opening remarks.
The gathering focused on tourism’s key role in building a sustainable future, tying into India’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047—a developed nation by 2047. It highlighted innovative, people-focused approaches to make tourism more inclusive and eco-friendly.
Overall, these celebrations show India’s strong push for sustainable tourism, positioning the country as a global leader while boosting local spots like Kashmir for travelers seeking adventure and peace.
