J-K: Vaishno Devi Yatra to resume from September 14

Vaishno Devi Yatra Resumes on September 14 After Weather Delays and Landslides

Good news for devotees! The famous Vaishno Devi Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir will restart on September 14, after a 14-day halt due to bad weather and track repairs. Officials announced this on September 12, but the resumption depends on clear skies and favorable conditions.

The pilgrimage to the holy Mata Vaishno Devi shrine had to pause because of heavy rains, landslides, and safety issues. Persistent downpours blocked paths and made the trek risky for pilgrims. Even the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway faced disruptions from road damage and more slides, affecting travel to Katra base camp.

This isn’t the first challenge for the yatra. It all started with a tragic landslide on August 26 near Adhkuwari, halfway through the 12-km trek from Katra. The disaster hit around 3 pm, triggered by intense rains, and claimed 34 lives while injuring others at the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya area. Since then, authorities suspended the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage to prioritize safety and fix the tracks.

The break has been tough on pilgrims eager to visit the sacred site, and local businesses in Katra relying on the influx of devotees have felt the pinch too. But now, with maintenance done, the Shrine Board is ready to welcome everyone back.

Pilgrims, here’s what you need to know before heading out:

  • Carry a valid ID and stick to the marked Vaishno Devi Yatra routes.
  • Cooperate with staff on the ground for a smooth experience.
  • RFID tracking is a must for better safety and monitoring—it’s all about keeping things transparent.

For the latest updates on Vaishno Devi Yatra timings, online bookings, or helpline numbers, check the official Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board website. They’re working hard to ensure the pilgrimage stays safe and respectful.

The Board thanked all devotees for their patience during this Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra suspension. Resuming the journey shows the strong faith and spirit of everyone involved, and they’re committed to protecting this cherished tradition. If you’re planning a visit, stay tuned for weather alerts to avoid any last-minute hitches.
