J-K: Wreath-laying ceremony held in Jammu for Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand

In Jammu, India, a somber wreath-laying ceremony took place Sunday morning to honor Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand, an Indian Army soldier who lost his life during a fierce operation in Udhampur’s rugged terrain. The clash erupted late Friday night, around 8 p.m., when alert troops from the White Knight Corps spotted a group of terrorists in the Seoj Dhar area of Jammu and Kashmir.

Major General PS Dagar, head of the White Knight Corps, led the tributes by laying a wreath at the ceremony. The corps also paid respects on Saturday, sharing a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter): “Supreme Sacrifice. GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand, who made the ultimate sacrifice during an ongoing operation at Kanji, Udhampur, on the night of September 19-20. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

The encounter quickly turned intense as soldiers exchanged fire with the hiding militants. Sadly, Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand suffered injuries in the gunfight and succumbed to them. Police confirmed that Jammu and Kashmir’s Special Operations Group rushed in to support the army, aiming to flush out the terrorists hiding in the forested hills.

Security ramped up across Udhampur district right after the clash began, especially along the busy Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Extra troops poured into the area, while helicopters and drones kept watch from above to track any movements.

Officials believe two to three terrorists, possibly from Pakistan, remain trapped in the zone. Operations continue non-stop as Indian security forces work to neutralize the threat in this volatile part of Jammu and Kashmir, where encounters with militants have intensified lately.

This incident comes just weeks after a successful mission elsewhere in the region. On September 9, security forces wrapped up Operation Gudder in Kulgam, killing two hardcore Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists. They identified the fighters as Rahman, a Pakistani national, and Amir Ahmed Dar from Daramdora in Shopian. Troops also seized weapons, ammunition, and other gear from the site, as announced by the Chinar Corps on X.

These ongoing efforts highlight the Indian Army’s determination to combat terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, protecting civilians and maintaining peace amid rising threats.
