K’taka: Amid leadership row, CM Siddaramaiah & his deputy DKS reaffirm Cong will return to power in 2028

Bengaluru, Nov 24 (LatestNewsX) – Amid a continuing political tussle, Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister, state Congress president D.K. Shivakumar, made confident declarations on Monday that the Congress will regain power in the 2028 state elections. The remarks were delivered while the two leaders cut the ribbon for new development projects in Shidlaghatta town, Chikkaballapur district.

CM Siddaramaiah told the gathering: “We have fulfilled the assurances we gave during the elections and kept our word. Therefore, it is certain that the Congress government will come to power again in 2028. We are pursuing development-oriented politics by bringing people and society together. Measures will also be taken to benefit the weaver community in Shidlaghatta. We are acting exactly as we promised.”

Adding that the BJP had failed to deliver on key promises, he noted that no houses were allocated during its tenure, while his team is now bringing development programmes and welfare schemes directly to residents’ homes. He warned that the BJP was resorting to smears and partisan tactics to create divisions.

Siddaramaiah further emphasized the need for economic empowerment across all strata, rejecting caste and class barriers, and highlighted his government’s efforts to lift disadvantaged groups regardless of caste or religion.

Addressing the BJP’s claim that the treasury is depleted, he argued that government funds and initiatives continue to go straight to households month after month, and that ongoing irrigation, urban, and rural projects cost millions of crores, proving the treasury is engaged in real development.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar echoed the CM’s message, urging opposition parties to stop speculating and affirming the Congress’s inevitable return in 2028. He listed specific projects—such as lake rehabilitation, water supply for agriculture and drinking, land rights for 111,111,111 people, and an updated food kit replacing rice with cooking oil and pulses—that were promptly implemented.

He noted that even opposition-held constituencies received Rs 2,000 crore in development works, showcasing the party’s pro‑people stance. He also observed that women across the state often pause to recognize the party’s contributions whenever money is deposited into their accounts, and that the celebration of ministers like Lakshmi Hebbalkar reflects the broader changes benefiting women.

Earlier the same day, Siddaramaiah confirmed he would continue as Chief Minister if directed by the party’s high command, stressing his willingness to follow the central leadership’s decision. This stance follows his recent assertion of completing a full five‑year term and presenting the remaining budgets, after a detailed discussion with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge last night. When asked about a power‑sharing arrangement or a leadership change, he reiterated that final authority rests with the high command and that both he and D.K. Shivakumar will abide by its verdict.
