Chaibasa, Nov 7 – In a decisive move, Jharkhand police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cleared a large stash of weapons and explosives from the dense Saranda forest in West Singhbhum district, showing strong progress in the state’s anti‑Naxal fight.
The joint team faced a group of Maoist insurgents from Thursday night into Friday morning in the Kulapu Buru area under Jaraikela police station. After a tense gun battle, officers swept the surrounding forest and uncovered a huge cache that could have sparked a major attack.
The seized kit included two Self‑Loading Rifles (SLRs) and a .303 rifle, plus 37 live AK‑48 rounds. Officers also found 78 SLR rounds, 130 .303 rounds, and 16.68 kilograms of gelatin for making explosives. The gear contained 13 ready‑to‑use gelatin‑based IEDs, 15 detonators, five radio sets, two interceptors, two laptops, 11 FM radios, 24 syringes, and other Maoist equipment.
Police said the volume of weapons suggests the rebels were either preparing a large‑scale assault or targeting security teams in the area. To stop further threats, the forces ramped up search and control operations in the forest and nearby villages. All escape routes were blocked, and no security personnel were hurt in the encounter.
“We are going to wipe out the Naxal presence by March 2026,” the police said. The anti‑Naxal operations, a joint effort between regional police and CRPF, will continue as authorities push for a Naxal‑free Jharkhand.
