Delhi Police detain three Nigerian nationals staying illegally, deportation process initiated

Delhi Police in the South West District caught three Nigerian men living illegally in India and kicked off their deportation process. Officials from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in New Delhi are handling the paperwork, as confirmed on Saturday.

The men are Eloumuno Gabriel, 29, from Anambra; Chinedu Paulinus, 33, from Asaba; and Sunusi Sani, 26, from Lagos. They first told cops they had valid visas stored at the Nigerian embassy, but checks with the Nigerian High Commission and immigration officials proved otherwise. Turns out, they’d overstayed their welcome in India and never headed back home.

It all started when police got a tip about illegal African migrants hanging out in Sagarpur and Palam village areas. A team moved in quickly, stopped the suspects, and asked for their IDs. The men couldn’t show valid visa papers and confessed to staying in the country without permission.

A quick search of their phones turned up copies of their passports and Nigerian national ID cards. They shared that they’d been doing housekeeping work with other African friends in spots like Shahdara in Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida. At the time of the arrest, they were crashing in Dwarka Sector-01 near Palam village and hunting for more jobs.

This isn’t the first such case. Just last month, FRRO nabbed another Nigerian national illegally staying in Chhatarpur. A local resident complained to the Delhi High Court, saying the man was renting a place without a valid visa—his applications had even been rejected. With rising concerns over illegal immigrants in India, Delhi Police is staying vigilant against visa overstayers and unauthorized stays.
