Lt Governor Manoj Sinha Kicks Off International Nanotechnology Conference in Srinagar
In a big boost for science and innovation, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the 9th International Conference on Nanotechnology for Better Living in Srinagar on Sunday. This exciting five-day event, running from September 7 to 11, gathers over 500 scientists, researchers, innovators, and students from around the world at the University of Kashmir campus.
The conference, organized in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NIT Srinagar, dives deep into the latest advancements in nanoscience and nanotechnology. Experts will present research papers on how this cutting-edge technology transforms industries, agriculture, animal husbandry, healthcare, environment, energy, and more. It’s all about using nanotechnology to tackle global challenges and promote sustainable living.
Speaking at the event, Lt Governor Sinha highlighted nanotechnology’s huge potential. "Nanotechnology isn’t just stuck in labs anymore—it’s a game-changer shaking up everything from defense to healthcare," he said in his address. He shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "Addressed International Conference on Nanotechnology For Better Living at University of Kashmir. The five-day mega event has brought together leading scientists & researchers to showcase recent advancements in nanotechnology and its applications for sustainable living. Today evolution in nanoscience & nanotechnology is having transformative impact across various sectors. The cutting-edge research in future will address critical global challenges in industries, healthcare and the environment."
Sinha pointed out India’s rising star in global innovation, mentioning Operation Sindoor as proof of the country’s strength in tech and security. He linked this to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of blending innovation with defense and other key areas. Urging the University of Kashmir to take the lead, he suggested developing nanotechnology-based tools like soil sensors. These could provide early warnings for natural disasters such as landslides, helping not just India but the entire Himalayan region.
"Nanotechnology is reshaping industries and fostering sustainable solutions. Institutions like IITs and NITs will drive innovative solutions for a better future," Sinha added. He also emphasized its role in fighting climate change and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Encouraging young researchers, he called on them to use this platform for collaborative breakthroughs that make life better for everyone.
This nanotechnology conference in Srinagar promises to spark fresh ideas and partnerships, putting Jammu and Kashmir on the map for world-class research. With its focus on real-world applications, it could lead to exciting solutions for a greener, healthier tomorrow.
