Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the famous Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district on Tuesday, where he offered prayers for peace and prosperity across India and the union territory.
Sinha shared his thoughts on X, saying, “Heartfelt greetings to all on the sacred festival of Maha Ashtami. Today, at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple, I performed worship and rituals and prayed for the happiness, peace, prosperity, and good health of all citizens.”
He paid his respects at the holy cave shrine nestled in the Trikuta hills. The ongoing Vaishno Devi yatra has been running smoothly this Navratri, with more than 135,000 devotees making the pilgrimage to seek blessings from Goddess Durga.
This marks the ninth day of Navratri, a vibrant nine-day festival running from September 22 to October 1. On this day, followers honor Maa Mahagauri, one of the forms of the powerful Goddess Durga. The Mata Vaishno Devi shrine holds extra special meaning during Navratri, drawing crowds from all over.
Officials report that the yatra remains hassle-free, with over 135,000 pilgrims already visiting the cave shrine. The air at the Katra base camp and along the route buzzes with chants of “Jai Mata Di,” heartfelt devotion, and lively bhajans. Devotees flock here from every corner of India and even abroad, eager for Maa Durga’s grace.
The base camp, the trekking path, and the Bhawan temple glow with colorful lights and fresh flower decorations. The mix of spiritual vibes and festive joy creates a truly uplifting atmosphere during this Navratri celebration.
To keep everything safe, authorities have set up strong security with police, CRPF, paramilitary forces, and quick-response teams watching over the entire festival.
The pilgrimage kicked off again on September 17 after a 22-day pause. Heavy rains on August 26 triggered a massive landslide along the track, claiming 34 lives and injuring 20 others. Now, the route is back in action, and the faith of Navratri devotees keeps the spirit alive.
