Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta couldn’t hold back her excitement late Sunday night. She congratulated Team India for their thrilling win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final. “From the bottom of my heart, kudos to the entire Indian cricket team,” she told reporters. Gupta called the victory a special moment during Navratri, dedicated to Maa Durga, and said it brings joy to all 144 crore Indians.
Team India chased down the target with five wickets to spare in a heart-pounding T20I Asia Cup final at Dubai International Stadium. Tilak Varma starred with an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls, including three fours and four sixes. His key partnerships with Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube sealed India’s second T20I Asia Cup title—and their ninth overall, counting the ODI versions.
Under captain Suryakumar Yadav, India keeps dominating T20Is. They’ve notched 18 wins, just two losses, and two ties since he took the helm. Pakistan posted 146 all out after a shaky start. Kuldeep Yadav ripped through their lineup with 4 wickets for 30 runs, triggering a collapse from 113 for 1. Openers Sahibzada Farhan smashed 57 off 38 balls (five fours, three sixes), and Fakhar Zaman added 46 off 35 (two fours, two sixes), but the rest crumbled.
India’s chase of 147 got off to a rocky start. Faheem Ashraf struck early with 3 for 29, dismissing Abhishek Sharma for 5 off five balls, caught at mid-on by Haris Rauf. Then captain Suryakumar Yadav fell for 1 off five to Shaheen Shah Afridi. Vice-captain Shubman Gill managed 12 off 10 before Rauf caught him at mid-on. At 20 for 3 after four overs, India looked vulnerable, echoing tough losses like the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final.
But Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson fought back. They added quick runs in the powerplay, reaching 36 for 3. Tilak hammered Faheem for a four and a six. By 8.1 overs, India hit 50, thanks to Samson’s single. At the 10-over mark, they stood at 58 for 3, with Samson on 16 not out and Tilak on 24 not out. They smashed sixes off spinners to build momentum.
Samson fell for 24 off 21 balls (two fours, one six), caught at backward point for a 57-run stand broken at 77 for 4 in 12.2 overs. Shivam Dube then joined Tilak, adding 33 off 22 (two fours, two sixes). Their steady knocks guided India home in style, turning early nerves into celebration.
This Asia Cup triumph caps a stellar run for Team India in T20 cricket, boosting spirits ahead of bigger battles.
