Guwahati, Nov 14 – Indian Railways is rolling out new LHB coaches on the Kanchanjunga Express to give travelers a smoother, safer ride. The modern Linke‑Hofmann‑Busch (LHB) rake will replace the old ICF coaches and start running from Nov 28.
The Kanchanjunga Express links Sealdah in Kolkata with Sabroom near the Tripura capital on one route, and with Silchar in Assam on the other. This train is a key artery for the northeast, helping folks move between the region and eastern India.
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) spokesperson Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said the upgraded rake will bring instant benefits. “We’re proud to give passengers a crew of LHB coaches that pack advanced safety and comfort,” he said.
LHB cars are built with an anti‑telescopic frame that limits damage in a crash. That safety feature, along with better suspension, makes the ride quieter and steadier. The new coaches can also run faster and look nicer inside, making long journeys feel less tiring.
The train’s new composition includes five AC 3‑tier coaches, one AC 2‑tier, nine sleeper cars and four general seats. That mix ensures every fare class gets a spot, while the improved coach design boosts overall capacity.
Indian Railways’ move reflects its push to modernise every part of its fleet. From safety to speed, the new LHB coaches turn the Kanchanjunga Express into a world‑class train that meets modern passenger expectations.
NFR, which serves the seven northeastern states plus parts of West Bengal and Bihar, continues to update trains across its network. This upgrade signals Indian Railways’ commitment to quality and innovation across all its services.
