New Delhi, Nov 28 (LatestNewsX) – As the air quality in the Delhi‑NCR belt keeps slipping, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi went to the platform ‘X’ on Friday to blame the government for the choking children in the region. “Every mother I meet tells me the same thing: Her child is growing up breathing toxic air. They are exhausted, scared and angry,” he wrote. In another post he challenged the Prime Minister: “Modi ji, India’s children are choking in front of us. How can you stay silent? Why does your government show no urgency, no plan, no accountability?”
Gandhi added that India must hold an immediate, detailed parliamentary debate on air pollution and launch a strict, enforceable action plan to stop this health crisis. “Our children deserve clean air – not excuses and distractions.” He also shared a clip where he speaks with concerned mothers who detail the worsening health of their kids and warn that a neglect of this problem will cause lasting economic damage. Their questions about the lack of health advisories and urgent measures prompted Gandhi to respond that those benefiting from the status quo are blocking meaningful change.
Meanwhile Delhi woke to another toxic day on Friday, registering an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 385, squarely in the “very poor” range. The spike came shortly after authorities lifted Stage‑III restrictions of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), originally designed to curb severe smog. Yet a rapid rebound left the AQI high again. Thursday’s figure had already spiked from 327 to 377 in one day.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said that Stage‑III curbs will only return once the AQI tops 400, which triggers the “severe” category. Until that threshold is breached, officials will keep close tabs on the evolving situation. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), low wind speeds kept building up pollutants; the AQI climbed from 351 at 8 am to 381 by 7 pm on Thursday, underscoring the steady rise in contamination across the region.
