India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav kept things light after his team’s six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super Four match in Dubai. When reporters asked about the sloppy fielding that let Pakistan reach a fighting 171/5, Suryakumar joked that the fielding coach had already emailed the players with “butter on their fingers” to report to his office. “But this happens—it’s part of the game,” he added with a smile. “I’m okay with it since it was just the first match, and we’ve got bigger games ahead in the Asia Cup.”
The win didn’t come without drama. India won the toss and chose to field first, but dropped catches from Kuldeep Yadav, Shubman Gill, and Abhishek Sharma gave Pakistan a boost. Sahibzada Farhan smashed 58 off 45 balls, including five fours and three sixes, while Saim Ayub added 21 in a 72-run partnership. Later, Mohammed Nawaz (21) and Faheem Ashraf (20 not out) pushed Pakistan to 171/5 in 20 overs.
Shivam Dube starred with the ball for India, taking 2/33 in four overs. He broke the key partnership by dismissing Saim Ayub and later got half-centurion Farhan out. “Dube’s spell was the turning point,” Suryakumar said. “He’s worked hard on his bowling and always wanted to bowl at least two overs—he got four today and nailed his plans.” Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya each picked up one wicket.
Chasing 172, India exploded early thanks to a 121-run opening stand between Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. Abhishek fired 74 off 39 balls with six fours and five sixes, while Gill made 47 off 28 with eight boundaries. Pakistan’s Haris Rauf fought back with 2/26, but Tilak Varma (30 not out) and Hardik (7 not out) guided India home with seven balls to spare in the thrilling India vs Pakistan cricket clash.
Suryakumar praised the Dubai pitch for favoring batsmen. “The team that plays smart from overs 7 to 15 will dominate,” he noted. “Powerplay is easy with the hard ball, but you need clever plans later—and that’s what we did today.” Abhishek Sharma earned Player of the Match for his explosive knock that turned the Asia Cup game in India’s favor.
