Shubhankar Sharma faced another tough day at the BMW PGA Championship in Wentworth, UK, missing his 15th consecutive cut. The Indian golfer posted scores of 71 in the first round and 74 in the second, falling short as the cut line settled at 2-under par. That left 82 players advancing, but another cut after the third round will trim it to a maximum of 78 for the final day.
Sharma’s struggles continue—he hasn’t made a cut since the Indian Open back home. Meanwhile, fellow Indian Veer Ahlawat, who topped the PGTI Order of Merit, didn’t even make it into the field this week.
On a brighter note for golf fans, Hideki Matsuyama stole the show with a stunning second-round 64, grabbing a one-shot lead at 12-under par. The Major Champion, making his debut at this European Tour flagship event, started four shots back after a weather-hit first round. But he roared back in the afternoon wave, firing an eagle and two birdies on the front nine for a slick 31.
Things got even better after the turn, with three birdies in four holes pushing him up the leaderboard. Sure, he dropped a bogey on the 15th after a wayward tee shot, but Matsuyama bounced back with a brilliant chip-in eagle on the 17th to claim the outright lead.
Chasing him closely are European Ryder Cup stars Justin Rose, Ludvig Åberg, and Viktor Hovland, all tied for second at 11-under. Spain’s Pablo Larrazábal sits one shot further back at 10-under.
Big names like Rory McIlroy (69-72) and Shane Lowry (67-74) are tied for 44th, while Tommy Fleetwood birdied the 18th for a second-round 69, landing at T-61 after his opening 73.
With a stacked field and weekend drama ahead, this BMW PGA Championship is heating up—keep an eye on Matsuyama and the chasers!
